This amazing artist came via my brother who was reading the BLDGBLOG a while ago and sent it to me. Last month I was largely in Morocco with a non-profit, Nest, that I volunteer with but now I’m back and have several great artists to post on. Shannon lives and works in Maine, not far from me here in Boston!
Her work with maps is amazing — I’ve blogged before about topographic cut outs before but doing them with maps takes it to a whole new level.
One thing that I like most about her work is that she works with the impact of scale, which is something I think I’m also employing with my yurt project. You can make a beautiful thing little and you can make a statement with something huge as well.
As everyone knows, repetivite, meditative works are where my head is still at and the above truly fits the bill.
The above I like a lot because it removes the topography and just shows the routes to get from point A to point B, which is sadly how a lot of people see the world! I love maps, I love cut outs and I really like Shannon’s website, super easy to navigate! She has tons of other pics there too if you like what you see.
The above, Dissect, I found on her site and love its more sculptural qualities of the map really coming alive and apart!
And, wow, this one reminds me so much of Meander’s work on Etsy — it was all drawn with a single line — a fun test to see what you come up with!
